CHAOS RECORDS, in conspiracy with Canometal Records and Burning Coffin Records, is proud to present the highly anticipated debut album of Chile's SEPULCRUM, Lamentation of Immolated Souls. CHAOS will release the album worldwide on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats; in the band's native Chile, Canometal will release the album on CD while Burning Coffin will release it on tape.

Formed in 2019, Chile's SEPULCRUM are a death metal band hailing from Puerto Montt. Comprising the members Nicolás Miranda (vocals/guitar), Sebastián Zúñiga (drums), Oscar Gibert (guitar) and Nicolás Espinoza (bass), SEPULCRUM possess a wealth of experience in the underground scene, altogether working in or having done time in such bands as Cavernal, Horrifying, Disharmonic, Exinteratus, and Hallux Valgus. For them, the ever-classic sounds of '90s death metal reign supreme, with strongest influence taken from Morbid Angel, Deicide, Morta Skuld, Pestilence, Death, and Russia's Mortem.

Amazingly, four years into SEPULCRUM's existence and there have been no changes in the lineup. Such solidity has proven beneficial to their songwriting and execution, as the band took to the stage across the country and eventually released the debut EP Corpse Dividing Holes in 2020 on cassette format through Burning Coffin; a year later, Canometal released it on CD.

Now, at long last, SEPULCRUM's worldwide debut is here with Lamentation of Immolated Souls. Bearing ten songs in 39 minutes, SEPULCRUM's first full-length is a reverential and remarkably authentic throwback to death metal's early '90s heyday. With uncanny ease, the quartet set forth on a masterclass in proud 'n' powerful DEATH METAL that has many moods and moves at many speeds; there's no subgenre stickling, staying in boxes like "Tampa death metal" or "Swedeath" or "Finnish deathgrind" etc. Only songwriting is king here, and SEPULCRUM proceed to build labyrinth upon labyrinth across Lamentation of Immolated Souls. Likewise, the production is absolutely key here; highlighting the quartet's chops and overall dexterity, the recording is clear and cutting but without losing any requisite rawness, with drums and vocals recorded by Christian Bintrup at Soundpro Studios and all strings recorded by comrade Victor Villanueva and mixing & mastering done by Chilean scene kingpin Benjamín Barrantes. Of course, no classic death metal album is worth its salt without sympatico cover art, and Francisco Ramírez (Morkt Artist) - the same individual who did the cover art for SEPULCRUM's first EP - delivers the goods on Lamentation of Immolated Souls. No other words needed: (un)godly glory-days death metal!

An outstanding Extreme doom death album, in the best tradition. The funerary atmosphere reminds of Evoken ('Centuries of ooze" bears striking similarities, for my delight). It is overall sharp, dark, hypnotic and unrelenting. One of those rare convincing new bands that hold proud the legacy of the biggest names. Bertrand Marchal
